Job Description
The Nuclear Science and Engineering Division is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral appointee to join the Nuclear Applications and Economics group (https://www.anl.gov/nse/nuclear-applications-and-economics). This position seeks experience in several technical fields including but not limited to nuclear economics, energy market modeling and analysis, and advanced reactor design and modeling. The individuals may: 1) Perform economics analyses of nuclear reactors and facilities, and energy market modeling; 2) Contribute to the design and analysis of advanced nuclear reactors such as SFRs, MSRs, HTGRs, and Micro-reactors and their associated fuel cycles; 3) Develop and apply computational strategies to improve the modeling & simulation of nuclear and energy market economics analyses; 4) Produce papers and reports describing results of development work, analyses, and investigations.
Position Requirements
Knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices for the design and analysis of reactor systems.
Research experience in one or more specialized area of nuclear science and engineering.
Experience in economics applied to energy market systems modeling.
Knowledge in costing analyses of nuclear facilities.
Experience in the development and/or application of nuclear reactor physics and economics codes.
Experience in computer programming and scripting.
Skill in the conception, design, and evaluation of innovative approaches and solutions to quantitative problems.
Skills in the use of computers and in the analysis of computational results, clear and effective documentation and communication of results, and interaction with co-workers and support personnel.
Experience with writing funding proposals for innovative ideas.
Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication.
Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in nuclear engineering, physics, or a related field with a Ph.D. and 0+ Years of experience, Master’s and 3+ years of experience, or Bachelor’s and 5+ years of experience or equivalent.
