Job Description
The InterQnet project at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a Postdoctoral position to conduct research in the field of experimental quantum communication and networking. InterQnet aims to demonstrate quantum communications between heterogeneous qubit platforms in Argonne’s campus network and across the Chicago metropolitan area, by taking a systems approach on the fundamental building blocks for experimental platforms and quantum network architectural choices.
The focus of this position is the development of a networking node based on neutral ytterbium atoms trapped in re-configurable optical tweezer arrays with a goal of demonstrating several key protocols necessary for practical, robust, and scalable quantum communication. The successful candidate will work in the Fundamental Symmetries group of Argonne’s Physics Division while also collaborating with a diverse set of researchers spanning a broad spectrum of fields relevant to achieving the goals of the InterQnet project.
Position Requirements
Ph.D. in atomic, molecular, and optical physics, or a related field; received within the last 3 years or upcoming year.
Experience working with optics, laser-cooled atoms, and ultra-high vacuum (UHV) chambers.
Experience designing and building experimental control and data acquisition systems.
Strong background in laser cooling and trapping of neutral atoms, quantum information science, ultra-cold quantum gases, or a related research area is preferred.
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
The initial term for this position is 1 year and can be renewed annually for up to 3 years, dependent upon funding and performance.
Questions about the position should be directed to Michael Bishof (bishof@anl.gov) Please note that only applications through Argonne website will be considered.
