Job Description
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral fellowship in islet biology and diabetes research in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Wayne State University and the Diabetes Research Laboratories at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit. The fellow will be based in the Biomedical Research Service at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center and will be primarily advised by Dr. Anjan Kowluru. The fellow will be involved in studies, which are aimed at understanding G protein-mediated signaling mechanisms underlying islet beta-cell function in health and diabetes. Specifically, these investigations will assess roles of G proteins and their regulatory factors in physiological insulin secretion, and potential abnormalities in these signaling modules in beta-cell models of impaired insulin secretion and diabetes. The fellow is expected to conduct statistical analysis of experimental data, preparation and publication of manuscripts, and presentation of experimental findings at national and international conferences. Applicants should have knowledge of biochemical, cell biological and molecular biological techniques. Experience in small animal handling and surgery is preferred. The applicant must have a PhD in a related field (e.g., Biochemistry, Cell Biology and Molecular Biology), and should have the ability to work independently and in-group settings.
