A brief introduction of Shantou University
Shantou University (STU), founded in 1981, is a comprehensive university jointly supported by the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Provincial Government and Li Ka Shing Foundation. The main campus is located in the northwest of Shantou and covers a total area of 1.26 km2.
STU continues to expand its international influence and has been listed multiple times in the world’s most authoritative university rankings, such as the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. In the 2024 world’s university rankings, STU is ranked 52nd among the universities in mainland China. A total of 10 disciplines have entered the global top 1% of ESI, and some academic staff members have been selected into the World’s Top 2% Scientists list by Stanford University. STU has established close academic exchanges and collaborations with 119 universities in 29 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, France, Japan, Russia, Australia and Germany.

A brief introduction of the discipline of Marine and Life Sciences
The discipline of Marine and Life Sciences in STU is jointly offered by the Department of Biology and Marine Science Institute, which have two important research platforms, including Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Marine Biology and Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Marine Disaster Prediction and Prevention. Laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities are located in the main campus and the marine research station in Nan’ao Island.
The discipline of Marine and Life Sciences in STU has been developed for more than 30 years. The academic staff members are well trained for both teaching and research. Many of them have worked in overseas academic institutes for many years, and their research publications are highly recognized and cited by researchers across the globe.
Research areas
Applicants should major in one of the following disciplines: marine biology, marine ecology, freshwater biology, global change biology, conservation biology, microbiology, phycology, biochemistry and molecular biology, toxicology, immunology and proteomics, aquaculture, probiotics, microbial fermentation, functional food, bioinformatics, ecological modelling, ecological remediation, sewage treatment, marine chemistry, biogeochemical cycles, physical oceanography, marine geology, quaternary geology or land-ocean interactions in the coastal zone.
Eligibility requirements
1.Applicants should be under the age of 35 and awarded the doctoral degree from a university/research institute within 3 years, or have passed the doctoral oral defense in the final year of PhD study.
2.Applicants should demonstrate strong academic and research abilities, and be able to work with multidisciplinary research teams.
3.Applicants should have good conduct as well as physical and mental health.
4.Applicants have to work full time for the position.
Salary and benefits
1.Base salary is 280,000 RMB per annum, in addition to paid vacations and medical benefits.
2.Accommodation can be offered by Shantou University.
3.Children can study in the kindergarten or primary school of Shantou University.
