Principal Investigator, Srinivas Gaddam, MD is looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join his dynamic team! Dr. Srinivas Gaddam is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of the Pancreatic Biliary Research Program in Department of Medicine
Cedars-Sinai’s Pancreatic Biliary research group comprises a group of world-class clinicians and researchers, and up-and-coming investigators who are interested in understanding disease mechanisms, early diagnosis, effective managements, and outcomes in upper gastrointestinal (GI) diseases and upper GI cancers. The goal is to decrease morbidity and mortality of patients from these diseases by improving early detection and in providing effective and evidence-based management.
Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists, the Postdoctoral Scientist will perform routine and complex procedures throughout training period. The incumbent may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. The team member analyzes and interprets data, may assist in preparation of grant proposals, and participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author. This position is not responsible for generating grant funds.
The postdoctoral position is a full-time appointment for one year and is renewable dependent on the applicant’s progress. The incumbent may have already completed training in or plan to apply for clinical fellowship during their tenure as a postdoctoral scientist. This is a non-clinical position. Applicants must have a proven track-record of academic interest during previous training. Applicants should have an aptitude to learn to design experimental protocols, including detailed data collection, and analysis. Knowledge of safety standards, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), research ethics, human subjects' protection, and other mandatory training will be required to commence the job. This program is intended to prepare the individual for a career in academia in medicine, and more specifically in gastroenterology. Scientists will obtain hands-on training in writing protocols, manuscripts and grant applications, and in conducting clinical research, with an emphasis on increasing independence.
Postdoctoral scientists are encouraged to apply for Master’s Degree in Health Deliver Science (https://www.cedars-sinai.edu/Research/Research-Areas/CORE/Masters-Program/). The position will attempt to pay part of tuition costs of this degree. This will be on case-by-case basis and will be based upon the candidate’s performance and experience. Salary will commensurate with ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) PGY-level status. A comprehensive benefits package will be offered for full-time postdoctoral scientists per Cedars-Sinai Human Resources departmental policy.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Incumbent will be encouraged to apply for fellowships as part of career development.
- Designs and performs experiments.
- Keeps appropriate experimental records and documentation, and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator.
- Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
- Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
Department-Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists research coordinator/research associate and other research members as needed.
- Mentors and assists residents/fellows in completion of research projects.
- Attends and participates in relevant clinical conferences.
- Prepares literature reviews, background research, and other draft content for grant proposals and academic papers.
- Drafts project reports, research protocols, and other project documents.
- Standardizes and manages large datasets.
- Writes grant proposals and works towards funding proposed research.
- Attends academic development program.
Qualifications
Education:
- Doctorate degree (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization.
Experience:
- Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization.
- Acquires complete technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.
- Strong academic record and interest in conducting research in GI is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of clinical study designs.
- Strong English oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Basic skills in data analysis software.
