Job Description
The Magnetic Devices Group at the Advanced Photon Source of Argonne National Laboratory, part of the Accelerator Systems Division, is actively seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher. The group is engaged in a broad spectrum of activities including maintaining existing undulator systems and advancing superconducting undulator (SCU) technology. This position will play a key role in developing technologies for both current and future light sources, with a focus on enhancing SCU technology.
Responsibilities include:
Conducting multiphysics simulations of various SCU designs.
Constructing and evaluate experimental setups to investigate new approaches in SCU technology.
Engaging with a multidisciplinary team to contribute diverse perspectives in an inclusive working environment.
Position Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Proven experience in electromagnetic and thermal simulations of superconducting magnets, utilizing commercial software such as COMSOL Multiphysics or ANSYS.
Proficiency in scientific programming with Python, Matlab, or similar languages.
Hands-on experience in building and testing experimental set-ups.
Exceptional communication skills, capable of effective collaboration and presentation within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Specific experience with modeling AC losses and the effects of screening currents on the magnetic field quality in superconducting magnets.
Background in the design of superconducting magnets, familiar with materials such as Nb3Sn and high-temperature superconductors.
Knowledge of cryogenic systems.
Familiarity with integrating and managing data acquisition systems in experimental setups.
