Job Description
Summary
Dr. Yuqing Huo's laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking a talented post-doctoral associate. The Huo lab is interested in using the system biology to study retinal disorders including diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, and aged-related macular degeneration, and to develop innovative treatment strategies. Recently, the Huo lab has made significant progress toward the understanding of these blinding diseases and their research has been published in translational journals. The PI has received multiple NIH grants to study these ocular disorders with animal models. The candidate is expected to develop a highly innovative and effective treatment for these retinopathy by targeting its multiple underlying causes including cellular metabolism, angiogenesis, inflammation, etc. The lab uses the following techniques for this study: histopathology on animal models and human specimens, transcriptome profiling, advanced in vivo imaging in animal models, gene therapy, drug delivery, etc. Prior experience in these areas is preferred. The Huo lab is particularly interested in using the visual system to address post-genomic era challenges (e.g., translate enormous genetic information to functional information). We place emphasis in "Translational Research": from “discovering mechanisms” to “developing innovative treatment strategies” to “moving into clinical trials”. Due to the translational nature of our research, students and postdocs will have good employment opportunities in both academia and industry.
