What Your Job Will Be Like: Are you interested in opportunities to expand the existing knowledge of advanced electronic and optoelectronic semiconductor materials? Our team is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to conduct innovative research in advanced semiconductor materials that have applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices. You will be creating and experimentally validating these advanced materials to improve their performance and reliability. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Design and fabricate semiconductor devices including III-nitride semiconductor field emission devices + Characterize the structural, electrical, and optoelectronic properties of semiconductor structures and devices + Analyze and model data to come up with an understanding of the underlying phenomena and device physics + Participate in one-on-one and team meetings + Present results at internal meetings, professional conferences, and publish results in journal articles Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: + Possess, or are pursuing, a PhD in electrical engineering, applied physics, materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or an equivalent field + Experience in semiconductor research as evidenced by publications, patents, and/or professional conference presentations + Able to acquire and maintain a DOE security clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Experience with the fabrication of semiconductor devices by e-beam and optical lithography and experience with cleanroom tools + Experience with the characterization of semiconductor materials + Experience in the electrical and optical characterization of devices + Experience with field emission structures and devices + Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, etc. + Proven interpersonal skills and able to work in diverse, multi-disciplinary teams About Our Team: The Advanced Electronic and Optoelectronic Materials Department, 1876, is responsible for the research, development, and application of physical and chemical sciences to materials technologies critical to Sandia's missions. Our work is currently along five thrusts: (1) density functional theory (DFT) calculations to study defects in semiconductors, (2) advancing state-of-the-art growth of semiconductor epitaxial material for device applications by Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) and related growth technologies, (3) structural, electronic, and optical characterization of semiconductor and dielectric materials and interfaces, (4) growth, processing, and characterization of nanostructures such as semiconductor quantum dots, quantum wires, and 3D structures including photonic lattices, and (5) film deposition and characterization of metals and dielectrics. We support a large variety of compound semiconductor materials science and device development projects. We have an extensive network of partners inside and outside of Sandia. The Department closely partners with other organizations, including the Semiconductor Material and Device Sciences Department 1873, the Advanced Thin Films and Processing Department 1875, other departments in Centers 1800 and 5200, and university and industry collaborators throughout the world. Security Clearance:
