Job Description
The Postdoctoral Appointee will be engaged in cutting-edge research focused on the development and implementation of advanced numerical algorithms, high-performance computing (HPC) techniques, and machine learning (ML) strategies. The primary aim of this position is to contribute to a SciDAC ASCR-NP partnership, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration between applied scientific computing and nuclear physics research. The appointee will work on optimizing and scaling complex computational models, ensuring their efficient execution on modern HPC architectures, and integrating innovative ML approaches to enhance predictive capabilities and data analysis. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive advancements in scientific computing while contributing to high-impact projects within a leading research partnership.
Position Requirements
- Completed or soon-to-be completed PhD within the last five years in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Computational Physics, or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in programming with Python and C/C++.
- Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and parallel programming.
- Strong background in numerical methods and algorithm development.
- Familiarity with machine learning (ML) techniques and their application to scientific computing.
- Experience with scientific computing libraries and tools, such as MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, or equivalent.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within an interdisciplinary research team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effectively conveying research results and collaborating with team members.
- Experience with version control systems like Git, and proficiency in software development best practices.
