Postdoctoral Appointee – X-ray Emission Spectroscopy at Extreme Conditions
- Argonne National Laboratory
- Location: Lemont, USA
- Job Number: 7285834 (Ref #: 419075)
- Posting Date: 2 months ago
Job Description
The Advanced Photon Source (APS) POLAR beamline is building a new instrument, named MagXES, that leverages the polarization dependence of the x-ray emission process to increase the sensitivity of magnetism-dependent x-ray measurements. This instrument will take advantage of the sub-micrometer beam size, advanced x-ray polarization control, high magnetic field, low temperature, and high-pressure capabilities of the new POLAR beamline. MagXES will, therefore, enable high-throughput element-resolved measurements of magnetism and electronic properties at extreme conditions.
The Magnetic Materials group in the X-ray Science Division seeks a Postdoctoral Appointee to contribute to the technical and scientific development of the MagXES spectrometer. The successful candidate will contribute to the spectrometer design and installation, as well as to the development of x-ray analyzers. Focus is expected to be placed on enabling high-pressure experiments, particularly using nanofabrication methods to tailor the high-pressure environment. Experiments will center on strongly correlated and topological systems using the MagXES as well as other x-ray spectroscopy and scattering probes.
