A post-doctoral position is available immediately for microbiologists, molecular biologists, biochemical engineers, and geneticists interested in converting methane into biofuels and bioplastics via a $3.2M grant from NSF. A Ph.D. in microbiology, molecular microbiology, biochemistry, biochemical engineering, or a related field with a strong background in molecular biology is desired as well as a strong desire to learn about archaeal physiology. Applicants should have a successful peer-reviewed publication history (at least two published manuscripts as a first author) and be in a position to begin within the next six months. We recently created a gene circuit for reversing methanogenesis for the first time in a methanogen and used it to create the first microbial fuel cell that runs on methane https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms15419). Our publications include those in Nature Biotechnology, Nature Chemical Biology, Nature Communications, PLoS Pathogens, PNAS, Nature ISMEJ, Microb. Biotechnol., J. Molecular Biology, Infect.
