Job Description
The Process R&D and Scale Up Group in the Applied Materials Division (AMD) of Argonne National Laboratory solicits applicants to fill a research and development postdoc position in the area of battery material synthesis and evaluation.
The successful candidate will perform basic and applied research and development including materials synthesis, physical characterizations, performance evaluations, and processing of materials. We are looking for a motivated, recently graduated candidate with expertise in active battery material synthesis, processing, and characterization.
Position Requirements
Ph.D. degree with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory/industry experience. This level of knowledge is typically achieved through formal education in chemistry, materials science, or a related field at the Ph.D. degree level.
Experience in the synthesis of cathode, cathode precursor, and electrolyte using solid state, sol-gel, co-precipitation, hydrothermal, and other processes.
Experience in the development of high energy density (800 Wh/L class) and fast charging (within 10 minutes) lithium-ion battery cells.
Experience in material scale-up with Roller Hearth Kiln (RHK).
Experience in AI/ML model development/application of battery materials.
Ability to characterize the synthesized cathode materials.
Ability to evaluate the electrochemical performance of the synthesized cathode materials.
Able to use advanced analytical techniques for particle structure and property determination.
Demonstrated expertise in obtaining and interpreting composition-structure-property relationships.
High level of scientific creativity and a strong aptitude for problem-solving.
Self-starter that can carry out tasks with minimal oversight.
Team oriented; willing to share with, listen to, and help others.
