Cleveland Clinic invites applications for the position of Chair, Department of Medical Genetics and Genomics, a globally impactful leadership role within the Medical Specialty Institute (MSI). The department includes 11 Board-Certified Clinical Geneticists and 36 Genetic Counselors, forming one of the largest and most diverse hospital-based genetics programs in the U.S. and a designated NORD Center of Excellence. The Chair will strategically develop and lead the department, with oversight across Cleveland Clinic's global locations in the United States, United Kingdom, Abu Dhabi, and Canada, as well as within the Cleveland Innovation District.
This is a central and critical leadership role, responsible for guiding a team of clinical geneticists, counselors, and scientists, while fostering integration with clinical and research programs throughout the enterprise. The Chair will report to the Chief of the Medical Specialty Institute and will hold a Staff position, with a faculty appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University at a rank commensurate with their experience.
The Chair will have the opportunity to integrate their independent research into the robust Cleveland Clinic Research, home to all basic, translational, computational, clinical and implementation science research across our global locations. Cleveland Clinic Research includes more than 1,900 faculty and employees, 235 laboratories, and 3,655 active research projects, and spans basic, translational, computational, clinical, and implementation science across our global network. The Chair of the Department of Medical Genetics and Genomics will play an enterprise-wide leadership role in genetics research, helping to guide Cleveland Clinic's global efforts in precision medicine.
Candidate Qualifications:
This position offers a singular opportunity for a distinguished clinician and scholar to grow a large and growing clinical genetic service and lead a global department at one of the world's leading academic health systems. Applicants should be an established or rising star in the field of genetics and have an MD/DO, MD/PhD or DO/PhD in genetics, with extensive (10+ years) clinical leadership experience. Board certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) is required.

The department is currently composed of nine independent laboratories with more than 100 research members, with expertise spanning translational omics, epidemiology, precision medicine and systems biology.In 2024, the department held over $44 million in active external grants. Research programs focus on applying multi-omics approaches to understand the basis of diseases spanning multiple impact areas inflammation, cancer, cardiopulmonary disease and neurodegeneration and neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism.Our investigators have a shared commitment to improving outcomes across patient populations. They perform large-scale analyses of populations across the globe to translate discovery into practice and inform personalized interventions for patient care. The department of Genome Health Science is home to the Genome Center, which is at the cutting edge of digital genomics, studying the interconnected ways our genomes and environmental and social factors influence our health.The department is also committed to training the next generation of scientists, with over 40 trainees, including postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, residents and graduate and undergraduate students.
