Job Description
The Laboratory of Prof. Michael J. Strong at Robarts Research Institute, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, Canada, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship focused on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This role offers an exciting opportunity to conduct innovative research at the intersection of neuroscience, cellular and molecular biology, and translational medicine. The initial appointment is for up to two years, with a competitive salary commensurate with experience. The fellow will join a vibrant, collaborative team with partners across Western University, Canada, the USA, and Europe.
Research focus
Projects will center on:
• Using Drosophila (fruit fly) models to investigate human genes implicated in neuroprotection and neurodegeneration previously identified via spatial transcriptomics; and
• Evaluating a biologic drug developed in the lab in organoids and iPSC models of ALS.
Techniques
Molecular cloning; Drosophila genetics and behaviour; immunofluorescence microscopy; transcriptomics; proteomics; and advanced cell culture.
Qualifications
• PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Molecular Biosciences, Neuroscience, or a related discipline.
• Prior experience with Drosophila models and a strong background in molecular and cellular biology and biochemistry.
• A solid publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
• Assets: Experience with organoids and/or iPSCs.
• The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong technical and theoretical knowledge; the ability to work independently; to be a team-oriented individual; and the capability to design and execute experimental protocols, including rigorous data collection and analysis.
